MAN » F8
The F8 model had a modern at that time daycab or sleeper cab. Interior design, ergonomics and comfort of the new cabins were higher than the previous model. F8 was the first model, where MAN officially began to use new indexation: the first number indicates the total weight truck, the figures after the point - on the engine power. In the mid 70's, MAN abandoned the production of V-shaped engines, focusing on the producing of 6-cylinder engines. The most successful was the third generation of 5- and 6-cylinder engines D25 with turbocharger (9511 and 11413 cm3). Shown at the motor show in Frankfurt-am-Main in the autumn of 1977, 8.5-ton truck 19.280F with a 6-cylinder diesel engine D2566T with power of 280 hp was awarded as the most economical for its time. For the first time in history, the MAN received the title "Truck of the Year 1978". Since 1976, some of trucks models received a mechanical gearbox ZF with automatic control and automatic transmission Allison.
