MAZ » 547A

MAZ 547A is the first multi-axial military chassis with a rigid frame developed to mount a launcher of the heavy missile complex 'Temp-S'. This 55-tonnes chassis got a lot of unique features. Two prototypes were built in 1970 and send to factory and government tests. Its main design feature were two single-place fiberglass cabins. The first one is intended for a driver, the second — for a commander. The radiator and engine compartment was located between them. The active frame length was 9455 mm and height — 1530 mm. Two fuel tanks has a capacity of 380 liters each. Range is 430 km.

The tests showed high technical level of the new chassis. MAZ 547A was recommended for military use. Mass production started in 1972. 294 copies of MAZ 547A produced till 1985. The chassis were fitted with a multi-fuel V-38 V12 (38.9 liters, 650 hp) engine with a turbocharger. The other feature is an independent suspension of all wheels.

Wheelbase between the first and last axles is 10,900 mm (2300+2300+2800+1750+1750 mm). Track of all wheels — 2526 mm. Ground clearance — 475 mm. Turning radius — 22 meters. Curb weight — 27.5 tonnes, GVW — 82.7 tonnes. Overall length — 15.5 meters. Top speed — 40 kph. Fuel consumption — 165 liters / 100 km.
