Atkinson » 3800 Mk 2

In 1966 an Australian built fibreglass tilt cab (by Reinforced Plastics Pty. Ltd.) was adopted. The "Skippy" cab was a double-skinned, all fibreglass affair which used the gap between the skins for cooling, with large intake vents set in the cowl over the top of the windscreens. The Mk 2 series vehicles could be equipped with Detroit Diesel, Gardner, Caterpillar or Cummins engines with an output from 250 to 340 bhp. First used by Atkinson in 1966, this cab was developed over the years and stayed in production at least into the 1980s, although other cabs were subsequently used.
