American LaFrance » Type 97 / 99 / 199 / 299 / 399 (GMC chassis)

In 1927 American LaFrance discontinued production of Brockway and Model T Ford fire apparatus. These low-budget, commercial chassis fire engines for small towns and villages, industrial and institutional fire brigades were immediately replaced by the all-new Type 99 built on a special GMC truck chassis purchased from General Motors. The Type 99 pumpers and combination hose cars were powered by Buick 6-cylinder engines. Later, more powerful variations equipped with GMC truck engines were designated Types 199, 299 and 399. Type 97 (1928) had two chemical tanks.

Checking to see what your refrence is for the 1928 type 97. I have recently purchased this type of apparatus and all I can find is that it is listed as a type 99 DT/COMB (combination car with two chemical tanks). If you have a person who is knowledgeable about this type truck I would be glad to learn more. I would be more than happy to submit a photo of my rig.

I recently purchased a 1927 Pearce fire engine. It is mounted on a GMC chassis and is powered by a Buick 6 cylinder engine. On the corner of the back running board it has the builder as Pearce Denver. It is an open cab with two seats instead of one.Can you give me anymore information about this apparatus? Thank You
