Chevrolet » Steel Tilt Cab series 60 / 65 / 70 / 80 / 90

In 1973, the Tilt Cab range was named the Steel Tilt Cab after the release of a new company's cabover model the Titan 90 with an aluminum cab (Series Aluminum Tilt Cab). Besides the new name the trucks received slightly modified grille. But actually those were the same trucks of early '60s. In 1973, the Steel Tilt Cab series included 6 models with petrol or diesel engines. TV70 with GVW of 32,000 lbs had 6V-53N diesel engine; TM80 with GVW of 33,000 lbs had 432 V6 or 478 V6 gasoline engine; TW90 with GVW of 39,500 lbs had 6V-71N diesel engine; WV70 was a tandem version of the TV70 with GVW of 44,500 lbs; WM80 was a tandem version of the TM80 with GVW of 45,000 lbs; WW90 was a tandem version of the TW90 with GVW of 48,000 lbs.

Since 1975 the Steel Tilt Cab series offered only with gas-powered engine in 3-ton TE60 and 4.5-ton TE65 series. Both were available with 133 or 175-inch wheelbase. A "350" V8 was standard in TE60s while TE65s used the 366 cubic inch 235 hp engine. Series nomenclature has changed for 1979. TE60 was renamed to W60, and TE65 became W70. Disk wheels were standard for W60, cast-spoke wheels were available as an option, but were standard equipment for W70.
