ZIL » 2E170V / 170V-75

Before the publication of the Resolution of the Central Committee and the Council of Ministers of the USSR about the development of a family of 6x4 trucks with a payload up to 16 tonnes and diesel V8 (210 hp) engines for a new car factory in the east of the country, ZIL began designing a family trucks very similar to ZIL 170.

The first prototype was built in the fourth quarter of 1968 in the form of a three-axle tractor ZIL 2E170V (also known as the ZIL 170V-75). The truck got a new diesel engine YaMZ-641, two-disk clutch, five-speed gearbox with a divider, two-circuit braking system and a number of other design innovations that ensure the reliability, efficiency and economy of the future model.

ZIL-170 trucks became prototypes for the future KAMAZ vehicle family. This tractor was born under ZIL brand because in 1968 it was not yet clear how exactly the new factory for the production of heavy vehicles would become known. This assumption is confirmed by the fact that in the process of testing "ZIL" logo was dismantled from the prototypes, and later in the test reports it was no longer referred as ZIL-2E170B, but as KAMAZ-5410.
