American LaFrance » 500 Series Army Air Corps

The Army Air Corps ordered this large tractor trailer combination around 1941 for service at crash scenes on an airfield in W.W.II. It was fitted with two remotely controlled foam nozzles, one in front of the handsome grille and the other on a turntable mounted above the cab. It could produce an immense amount of foam which was supplied by the 4,000 gallon tank semi-trailer, and was able to respond rapidly thanks to the big American LaFrance V-12 with its 240 horsepower. An enclosed coupe-type cab helped to protect the crew.
