Mercedes-Benz Actros Previewed

German auto giant Daimler is working on a new version of its Mercedes-Benz Actros truck, which is scheduled to go on sale in the second half of 2011. Disguised test versions of these new long-distance trucks are still in their final practical trials, but the automaker states that they will be ready in time. The new Actros trucks come with completely new cabs in seven basic versions. The adjacent image reveals a typical Mercedes-Benz design with aerodynamic refinements and an innovative lighting concept. Also, the driver is likely to benefit from plenty of space.

Performance wise, power comes from the recently presented Mercedes-Benz engines of the New Engine Generation built in Mannheim. These will initially be available in four output classes from 415 to 503 horsepower, with maximum torque from 2100 Nm to 2500 Nm (1,550 to 1,845 lb.ft.). Technologies used include the unique X-Pulse injection system, exhaust gas recirculation, exhaust aftertreatment using BlueTec diesel technology and a particulate filter. Thanks to them, these engines are the first in Europe to already comply with the Euro VI emission limits that will only come into force from 2014.
